What does Single Origin coffee mean?

Single origin means that the coffee bean has originated from one specific farm, area and producer. This allows you to trace your coffee to where it was grown, and the farming practices used (organic, sustainable agriculture).

What is the best choice for an espresso machine?

Caturra is the best choice for an Espresso Machine as it is a full-bodied bean, and also pairs perfectly with milk.

What is Specialty Coffee?

Specialty coffee is often referred to as the highest grade of coffee available. Besides exhibiting flavorful traits such as incredible mouthfeel and vibrant aroma, the term “specialty” describes green coffee beans having few or no primary defects and receiving a high cupping score. Specialty Coffee is achieved through organic, sustainable growing practices, extensive roasting tests, and extra attention taken in the brewing of the final product; whether that be at home, or by a barista.

Where is Muisca coffee roasted?

Muisca coffee is roasted to perfection in origin, by our professional expert Q Grader Stiven. This processing and roasting facility is located near Armenia, Colombia.

What does ‘Process’ mean?

Coffee processing is one of the most important steps in giving your coffee bean the best ‘cup’ flavors. It involves separating the coffee fruit, flesh and skin from the coffee.

The exact method used to prepare and process the bean has a dramatic effect on the resulting flavors and body which a roasted bean and prepared cup of coffee will have.

Today, roasters and baristas are concentrating on this coffee processing step to assist in describing the prepared coffee. Given this new approach to coffee, farmers are now processing their harvested fruit using different methods. Processing methods include a washed process, honey process, natural process, or anaerobic process.

Do you sell ground coffee?

Muisca coffee only comes in whole bean form as this is the best way to preserve the beans’ flavor for a long time. Ground coffee loses its intensity very quickly, and also absorbs the flavors of other substances it is in close proximity with. Put simply, Specialty Coffee should always be whole bean.

Are your coffee beans Arabica beans?

Muisca coffee is 100% Arabica.

Do you use blends of beans for your coffee?

We never use blends. Muisca is Single Origin coffee - We want you to enjoy every coffee bean variety and learn how amazing each variety can taste on its own.

Do you have Decaf?

We do not carry decaf as we want you to get the benefits of caffeine.

Where should I store my coffee?

What is Direct Trade? Is it the same as Fairtrade?

We work directly with our coffee farmers, and maintain a strong relationship with them. We share the same culture which connects us in business and in life. Direct means just that - dealing directly with farmers. No traders or middle people are involved.

The benefits of direct trade mostly go to the farmers. They receive payment for their product in advance of harvest. This allows them to have the ability to pay for the expenses of their farm. The other benefits of direct trade are that both parties communicate and have input into the processing of the beans, roasting methods, and transportation. We are proud to ensure our farmers are paid the right value for their efforts.

With Fairtrade, there can be many traders involved, which typically has an impact on the value the farmer receives.

How does Muisca benefit local Colombians?

We buy our coffee at a price negotiated between both parties. It is not a price set by the open markets, but one that reflects the hard work and effort of the farmer. This provides an economic stimulus to those farmers and the places they live.

The benefits the farmers receive through direct trade is felt by all those within the communities those farmers live in. We also promote these coffees and the farmers within our country and internationally. This allows other companies to reach out, providing more opportunities.
